National Doctors’ Day is celebrated all over the world on different dates. On July 1, every year. India celebrates National Doctors’ Day in respect of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy who is a medical practitioner, iconic, Bharat Ratna awardee, former leader of West Bengal and one of the most popular Congress leaders from eastern India.

On 1st July,1882 Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born in Patna Bengal. Firstly he graduated in Mathematics and after that he studied in medicine from the University of Calcutta. BC Roy is one of the few people in India who is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Completed the degree of Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in a single year.

Dr. Bidhan Chandra was also called Mahatma Gandhi's personal physician and good friend. In 1961, India also honored Dr. Bidhan Chandra with the Bharat Ratna. He joined politics in 1925 and served as the 2nd Chief Minister of West Bengal from 19458 to 1962. He made his house a nursing home and donated it in the name of his mother Aghorkamini.

Why Doctor’s Day is Important :

In 1991, the government in India declared that the National Doctors’ Day would be celebrated on 1 July, this day was declared on 1 July to thank the doctors and their work to make the country grow.

This day is celebrated to honor the doctors who are saving the lives of people day and night during the time of this corona. It is a very grateful day in India to spread awareness of this campaign - roles and responsibilities of Doctors, their contribution to the country, their day-night duty and hard work.

Theme for National Doctor’s Day:

Every year, National Doctor's Day is made according to a theme across the country.

The theme of 2019 was "Zero Tolerance to Violence against Doctors and Clinical Establishments". Has the theme been spread against the horrific violence against doctors in a pure country.

From July 1 to Jul 8, 2019, also celebrated as ‘Safe Fraternity Week’.

In 2020, the theme was to “lessen the mortality of COVID-19“.This theme was celebrated to see the contribution of the doctor in such a difficult situation. But the theme for National Doctors’ Day has not been declared yet.
