United Nations declared Global Day of Parents observance on June 1 every year. It is believed that parents of every race, religion, culture, and nationality in all parts of the world are the primary protectors and teachers of their children so they must be honoured for their commitment to children worldwide.
It is not a public holiday, it’s a worldwide observance. This day is recognized to pay respect and appreciation to the parents who do a lot of sacrifices for their children to nurture them and this parent-child relationship. They are dedicated for their whole life to provide their children with a good family environment, an atmosphere of happiness, love, and understanding. That’s why in India parents are referred to as God.
On this day, community leaders, parents, children, teachers, and family organizations get together in celebrating the day and promoting effective parenting. There are various campaigns and educational programs are hosted widely for parents to encourage awareness of the importance of parenthood.

Spending Time with Parents:
Children must spend
quality time with their parents. If not living with them then children must
call and talk to them, they must visit them. This will make them very happy and
will appreciate them.

Children must plan
a vacation or any outing with their parents and take them to the place wherever
they want to visit, a place which they can never forget visiting with their
children.

Watch a movie about the parent-child relationship:
Children must watch
a family movie with their parents in which they feature parents and children
and their relationship. There is a wide array of films like this. By watching
these movies with parents, there will be heart-to-heart talk.

Exchange thoughts on Parenting:
Children must ask
about the different stories and insights that come directly from their parents.
By this, children can find some useful parenting tips and also some funny
stories as well.

Read and learn about Global Day of Parents:
Children must learn about this special day like why this day is
recognized, what makes this a special day and what parenting is all about.
The Theme of Global Day of Parents 2024
Every year, a theme is set for Global Day of Parents. The theme of this year is ‘Appreciate all parents throughout the world’.
As COVID-19 takes hold, greater support is needed for working parents to
minimize negative consequences for children. Parents as legal guardians have
the responsibility of protecting their children from harm, caring for
out-of-school children, and at the same time earn for their livelihood by
continuing their work responsibilities. Without support from parents to their
children, children’s health, education, and emotional well-being will be at
risk.
A technical note from UNICEF, ILO, and UN Women on family-friendly policies in the context of COVID-19 shows that it is essential to support working families to promote children’s safety and well-being and to provide systematic support to employees by introducing family-friendly workplaces.
Why Global Day of Parents is Important

Respect:
This day reminds us
to respect others. Children should not only respect their parents or the ones
who are older than them, but they must also respect everyone. Because it's not
the age that matters, it’s something that has to be earned.

Encourages Father in Parenting:
This day encourages
a father to take a more active role in parenting. As fathers have a very active
role in children’s lives and it should not be like this way that a mother has
taken over all the parenting of her children.

Household is a Team Game:
This day reinforces
that supporting a household is a team game. Both father and mother have an
equal role for their children. Whether it's parents, friends, or relatives
everyone must give their equal time to the household.
