Mahatma Gandhi holds full name as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was well known as Bapu and Father of the Nation, because of the achievement he contributed towards Indian Independence movement.


There was a great tribute paid to Gandhi by gazetting 2nd October as the holiday throughout India and International Day for non-violence worldwide. He was a great Indian activist, who stood for in struggle for civil rights in India. He was a man of simple thinking and high living. He was an inspiration for many who never supported violence although many problems came upon him.


Born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, India. He played multi-roles of lawyer, politician, social activist and a writer. His list of achievements and contributions adds up in good number. He became nationalist movement supporting the liberation of India from British by simple equipment of Satyagraha and Non-Violence. He set an example for different political leaders like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King.



Gandhi studied law and enrolled himself at the Inner Temple for achieving his barrister degree. Gandhi Ji fought for the civil rights of Indian even in South Africa. He entered in South Africa as a legal representative for Indian traders located in Durban.

Gandhi opposed the bill of Natal Assembly for disqualifying voters who were not holding European originality. His satyagraha campaign in South Africa in 1914 passed an Indian Relief Act which allowed Indians to move freely into Transvaal.

List of his achievements is struggled still adds up the list. In 1915 he had the battle of civil disobedience with British for the Indian state of Bihar, which he won later. In early 1920, Gandhiji initiated Non-cooperation Movement after the massacre in Jallianwala Baugh which urged the Indians to boycott British goods and encouraged people to resign from government employment.

Gandhiji famous Dandi march in 1930 relief many Indian from paying the heavy tax on salt. Finally, in 1942 he demanded to end British rule and launched Quit India Movement on 8th August. In this movement, more than 100,000 people were arrested and hundreds were killed. But ultimately, British realized it was time to transfer power to Indians. He has another list of contribution improving the life of untouchable and people of lower caste.


Some of the schools and many places in India hold the honor to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti by conducting many cultural activities and events, in order to remember his greatness and contribution made. In the prayer session societies and school plays his favorite bhajan (devotional song) ‘ragupati raghav raja ram’. There are debates, elocution organized in schools in memory of Gandhi ji and also to promote his views and ideas in today’s youth.


Gandhi ji was awarded by TIME magazine as the person of the year in 1930. He was also opted for Noble Peace Prize several times but was not awarded for it.


On the day of Gandhi Jayanti, we should remember a man who is simple and down to earth changed many things. He proved that with kindness, truth, nonviolence, simplicity, and peace even the biggest problem can be solved in a better way. His non-violent methods proved highly influential in the number of activities and moments, which are witnessed by all of us.
